We were lucky, during our trip to Western Australia last month, to meet some dolphins.
“For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.”
– Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
The first image is especially great. Dynamic and lots of depth. Well done!
Oh lucky you…. and love the shots you caught. The quote is one of my favorites from Adams.
Anyone who quotes Adams merits respect in my book (which unfortunately is not as funny as Adam’s).
Those do look like fun shots . . . I hope you also took the time to watch outside the viewfinder.
Beautiful animals and fascinating. I used to love watching them coming up the Moray Firth from the Black Isle in Scotland. I think they are the same species – bottle nosed dolphins.
Fabulous photos Rachael and great quote to go with it x
Awesome!
This made me smile, Rachael; I love the opening shot. Was it your first time spotting dolphins? I was overjoyed to see a pair of them swimming in the Adriatic last spring. After several disappointing misses, they appeared during our sailing trip, at sunset. It was such a fleeting glimpse that I didn’t even get to capture an image of them. Perhaps that makes the memory even stronger. I hope we might see more in Croatia this time around too.
What a great quote! Nice photos too, love the action!
Stunning photos! We got the chance to swim with wild dolphins in Hawaii, just over a month ago. And although our photos don’t rival yours, the experience was amazing. And that same evening we went night swimming with manta rays. What an incredible day it was!
