It does look rather formidable, though harmless to us. My inner arachnophobe was a little dismayed to hear a news item this morning about a woman who was nearly killed by a house spider bite :O
I certainly hope that it was an allergic reaction. I have always been under the impression that no British spiders were venomous to anything more than a trivial degree and have always been completely happy to pick them up. I’ll have to search for the news item to put my mind at rest. ๐ฆ
Do not fear, it was an allergic reaction. But it creeped me out nonetheless.
The stories you tell with your creepy crawlers… ๐
Hi
Thanks for the award. Very sweet of you. I do not participate in awards – your visit is reward enough. But I am honoured nonetheless. ๐

I’m totally ambivalent and likely share many of the same feelings… so no worries, but mostly it’s a nod to let you know you’re appreciated! ๐
And that’s good to know :). I decided to avoid awards from the start because I am a veteran of similar “chain” processes on Flickr – learned from experience how they can take over.
Yes, perhaps I shouldn’t assume that my readers will feel the same affection for the creepies, although by now they probably know what to expect ;). I must admit that this spider did creep me out a bit. I am still an arachnophobe, sadly.
Hi Gary
Thanks! I am very glad you enjoyed it. I am finding Nietzsche to be a surprisingly useful source for my bug posts. I wonder if he is spinning in his grave ๐
Thank you for the continued bug shots, Rachael – I posted all of my half-decent shots right away, so I have none left until spring. And I’m going to have to ponder Nietzsche and bugs a bit…
Lovely shot, Rachael. That quote is perfect for the photo. Do I want to know what happened to the fly afterwards ;)?
The fly flew. I think it was too full of eggs (for it is a she) to move ๐
Now that’s a spider! What a monster.

PS It’s another one of them pesky awards waiting for you at http://wp.me/pXX8J-1It (should you choose to accept)

Lovely colours and contrast between the sharp scene and the soft backgroud!
Thank you. Glad you like it.
Very cool — the detail is amazing (I almost didn’t notice the little winged creature as I was so focused on the “monster”!) ~ Kat
Thanks, Kat. She does look rather scary!
Rachael, you always set a high bar, a quality photo of two great subjects and a quote to tie it all together. ๐

Thanks for continuing to visit and encourage, Sid, even when I am a sporadic reciprocator at best. Much appreciated.
Great picture, and I never knew “live dangerously” came from Nietzsche!
Thanks! Yes, good old Nietzsche seems to be a surprisingly fruitful source of quotations for my bug shots,
Wonderful photo and words.. shared on Facebook ๐
Thank you, Helen, for your ongoing encouragement. I am honoured ๐
Haha! Fantastic.
Thanks, Shannon. I thought you might like this one ๐
