Hundatora
Hundatora is a ruined medieval village near Hound Tor on Dartmoor. It is likely it was abandoned either because of deteriorating climate conditions or the Black Death (bubonic plague). Somehow it seemed to me to suit a slightly brooding, black and white treatment.
Spot on with choice presentation.
I have a few deserted villages around here according to the local OS map – I’m going to have to check them out! Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks, Stephen. Dartmoor is such a bleak, evocative place. I wish we lived near somewhere like that. The landscape is a lot more manicured around here.
It always amazes me how so often, very little of the walls are left standing on old abandoned dwellings. Always makes me wonder where the stone went or if it is still there under the grass.
I wonder if it was taken to be reused in other structures. Several of the locks in the Wey Navigation, a local waterway built in the 17th century, are lined with bricks from the ruins of Oatlands Palace, one of Henry VIII’s hunting lodges.
Very cool, minus the plague part. I love seeing history. Good choice with the b&w processing!
Thanks. I thought the black and white brought out the moodiness of this bleak, desolate spot.
Lovely….lives lived. Very poignant and the mono perfect to represent it.
Thanks, Jen. Glad you liked it.
very moody, yes, the B&W tone is perfect to showcase this eerie place,
Thanks, Sue. Compositions on Dartmoor are also helped by the plethora of wizened hawthorn trees.
Brooding, mysterious, haunting, elegant, beautiful. Would love to wander there.
fantastic
