Master Po: Do you hear the grasshopper that is at your feet?
Young Caine: [looking down and seeing the insect] Old man, how is it that you hear these things?
Master Po: Young man, how is it that you do not?
-Kung Fu, Pilot episode (1972)
(Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)
haha.. I remember that !! I have a grasshopper or 2 in my garden but only ever seem to get a chance to photograph them on a wall !! not pretty
Thanks, Helen. I rarely see them in my garden, sadly. This was taken in Jersey.
Nice Macro
Thank you!
Young Caine: Well, Master Po, I’m listening to “Two Steps from Hell” Eldorado. Great epic music, and beats whatever grasshopper sound you are imagining all to heck.
. . . bu the picture is nice.
He he. My teenagers are big fans of Two Steps.
Then I’m sure you’ve heard (and possibly seen) this:
Believe it or not, we hadn’t. The children say thank you for a very cool link.
Hey Rachael, it’s been too long – been wiped out with the flu and general Korea-induced enervation – so I’m gonna work through your recent posts backwards while I have an annoyance-free window here at work.
First off, nice grasshopper! (It may mean nothing to you, but a founder-member of one of my favourite alt bands, Mercury Rev, also goes by that moniker.) Next, can you clarify the f-stop you give here? At the risk of displaying my appalling lack of technical know-how, and being the laughing stock of the blogging world (again), should that be 2.8? I’m thinking surely not f 8?!
Really it is f8. At 100mm macro distance you only get a shallow DoF even at f8 plus the bug conveniently posed on a grass stem with some distance between it and the ground. Really most obliging.

Love the quote, ah memories.
Thanks. I think that show dates us all 😉
I used to love that show! Your grasshopper is almost as cute as the TV version. 😉
Thanks! That show just ran and ran!
