To Infinity and Bakerloo

London underground

f/5.6, 1/6, 8mm, ISO 400.

My Samyang 8mm fisheye lens (Fuji fit) is one of the best value for money lenses I have.  It’s manual focus only, but at 8mm and f/5.6, it’s actually quite hard to make anything out of focus. Paired with my little Fuji X-E1, it’s a cracking set up for taking down into the London Underground. This shot is from Saturday, at Regent’s Park station, on the Bakerloo line.  Best to see it larger to appreciate the photoshop fun I had with it after I got home (the clue is in the title).

I was scraping the bottom of the barrel a bit for my 365/12 as it appears I do not often take photos on 12th January!  I had only one in the last 7 years (the extent of my digital image-making life).  It is from 2009, the year of my real, as opposed to redux, 365.  I can only guess that it was a day much like today, wet and miserable, that made me resort to photographing soap.

  1. So much scope for photography on the London Underground. One of my regrets is I wasn’t taking pictures when I lived in London. I must get up for a visit very soon..! This is a super picture and I like what you’ve done in photoshop! As for the soap, it’s very nicely done, a great product shot! 🙂

  2. You’re being much too hard on yourself, Racahel. I’m certain that the bar of soap was an important existential statement at the time. You know, “There is soap in the world and I have a camera to record it” or something like that. 😉

When I first began taking pictures, I thought *everything* was worth a shot. Now, after so many years and so many photos, almost *nothing* (except my dogs and my grandchild) seems worth a shot. Which is better?

Remember Suzuki Roshi: “If your mind is empty, it is ready for anything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities; in the expert’s mind there are few.” He encouraged us to always maintain beginner’s mind.

    And soap.

  3. Haha! Can definitely relate to you resorting to taking a photo of soap – been there a few times! All part in parcel of doing a 365, I think.

The infinity shot is totally mesmerising. Caught my eye instantly.
